I really like this file. I took up the guitar in 1977 at age 18 wanting to fingerstyle like James Taylor, so I grew out my PIMA fingers on my right hand. For the next 50+ years I would use my nail clippers to cut them back, and smooth them out with a natural dried fish scale file and callus remover I got when I first grew them out. A few years ago, I started filing instead of clipping them with the file on my small Swiss Army Knife. While I found that I preferred filing to clipping, that particular tool was rough, crude, though effective. I forget how I found The Soundfile - maybe an ad or mention in either Acoustic Guitar or Ukulele magazine/website, but what a game changer! Elegant, smooth, effective, precise. I bought a second one to have one at my office. I chose the Allegro because of the zebrawood handle as my tenor ukulele is zebrawood. These are reasonably priced and very well made. I highly recommend them.
I bought the metal and glass files plus the sanding paper by SoundFile after watching a video by a ukulele instructor on nail care (he was using SoundFile products). I have been using them now for several months and couldn't be happier. I love the glass file! These high quality glass files seal the nail edge and the sanding paper is the icing on the cake. My nails feel very smooth, and they seem to help with sound clarity and definition. Now I am buying them as gifts.
